BSB Poland is hiring a sustainability specialist

For several years, BSB Poland has been at the forefront of efficient waste sorting, just as they replaced fossil fuels with green wind energy at their factory in Ciechocin in the beginning of 2022. Now the steel company is taking the next ambitious environmental step by hiring Anastasiia Kucheriava as a sustainability specialist.

Anastasiia Kucheriava: Data-driven approach to sustainability will make a difference

Anastasiia Kucheriava has a university degree in environmental protection and started earlier this year as an intern at BSB Poland to combine her theoretical knowledge with practical hands-on projects in a "real" company. Today, she is employed full-time and in the process of laying the foundation for future climate efforts together with her Danish and Polish colleagues.

- I have a solid theoretical knowledge of sustainability and am skilled at working in a structured way and achieving set goals. It is exciting to combine my know-how about sustainability with the challenges and opportunities a company like BSB has in order to reduce the footprint we leave on the environment, says BSB Poland's new sustainability specialist.

"Climate action is not about who is the best, but rather about helping each other and working together to reduce CO2 emissions. We must stand together to create a more sustainable world for future generations, and it is my hope that with our ambitious climate initiatives at BSB we can help inspire other Polish companies to be part of that same fight."

Figures are being readied for the BSB Environmental Report 2022

Over the next few years, many exciting projects await, but the first and immediate issue is clarifying how much CO2 BSB Poland emits.

- It is important that we know the figures for the CO2 that our production, vehicles and machines emit today. When we know the amount, we have the opportunity to measure how big a difference our future climate initiatives can have, explains Anastasiia Kucheriava about the ongoing calculations that will appear in BSB's annual sustainability report.

A data-driven approach to sustainability will make a difference

Although BSB Poland has been taking significant environmental initiatives for several years, the journey has only just begun. Right now, the company and its employees are working purposefully to reduce energy consumption in the factory and offices. LED lights are installed, as well as sensors that automatically turn off the light.

- We have some exciting initiatives underway, but the potential is far greater. In this regard I specifically look forward to help define the overall strategy for climate action together with BSB Group. With a more data-driven approach to sustainability, I am certain we can make a huge positive difference to the world we pass on for future generation, believes Anastasiia Kucheriava.

Will inspire others to act sustainably

She emphasizes that it requires a joint effort to turn the ideas behind the Paris Agreement on the environment into reality.

- Climate action is not about who is the best, but rather about helping each other and working together to reduce CO2 emissions. We must stand together to create a more sustainable world for future generations, and it is my hope that with our ambitious climate initiatives at BSB we can help inspire other Polish companies to be part of that same fight, says Anastasiia Kucheriava.

Who is Anastasiia Kucheriava?

BSB Poland's new sustainability specialist is 25 years old and originally from Ukraine. She moved to Krakow to study at the university in 2016. After her career jump to BSB Poland, she has moved to Torun.

- I’ve got the coolest job in a company that works ambitiously to make a noticeable difference. This is not just about making money, but also about making a difference to the world.

- At the same time, my Polish and Danish colleagues have welcomed me really well, among them General Manager Przemyslaw Majewski and Head of QHSE & CBI Winnie Fedders in particular. In the ongoing dialogue between us we exchange a wealth of ideas and experiences about how we can improve our climate efforts.

- All my colleagues are helpful, and I get to learn something new about steel and sustainability every single day. I am looking forward to help turn concrete climate initiatives into reality thus making a difference to BSB and to the world that we live in, emphasizes Anastasiia Kucheriava.
