Sculpture marking an anniversary is a gift to Lunderskov

The anniversary sculpture is intended to mark the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Lunderskov Station building. Patricia Cancelo is the artist behind the artwork, which BSB Industry is creating on a large scale. The artwork is a gift to the city, made possible by strong local collaboration between the artist, Kolding Municipality, and a number of local businesses.

Lunderskov Railway Station building was constructed in 1874, and in commemoration of its 150th anniversary in 2024, a sculpture titled "Lunderskov Universe" will now be erected in the square in front of the station building.

- BSB Industry has entered into a collaboration with the renowned sculptor Patricia Cancelo to create a large iron sculpture, which will be made in corten steel. Together with the other sponsors, we want to present a gift to the city's residents, says CEO of BSB Industry, Morten Krusborg.

The town of Lunderskov boasts several important and iconic buildings. The most prominent is the Lunderskov Railway Station building, which has been the focal point of the city's development over time. In days gone by, there were 60 employees at the railway station, 6 bakers, and a corresponding number of butchers in the town. Today, the building and the newly renovated square still serve as the focal point of life in the city.

The "Lunderskov Univers" is a gift to the town

Sculptor creates "Lunderskov Universe"

Patricia Cancelo is a recognized and well-known sculptor from Spain. During her residency at WestStationGallery in August 2023, she sat in her rocking chair, quite literally, and watched the trains from the station's warehouse where she worked. She observed the passersby, watched the trains and birds, while developing the sculpture "Lunderskov Universe," which depicts the movement and life surrounding the station.

Many local residents have seen the artwork "Lunderskov Universe" at WestStationGallery's art exhibitions in the autumn of 2023. Here, Patricia has met local art enthusiasts, and the interest has been overwhelming. BSB Industry, one of the city's largest employers, decided to to develop and finance the constructions of the artwork on a large scale in corten steel. Thus, iron becomes the link between local iron processing, the railway, and the sculpture.

- At BSB Industry, we are most pleased with the  collaboration and being able to contribute art to the city and all its residents. We feel like being a part of the community and are proud to have been given the opportunity to create the artwork on a large scale, says Morten Krusborg.

We can all see ourselves in the artwork

"Lunderskov Universe" is an impressive piece of art that conveys the story of life around the railway station, the encounters between people, and the development of society, and the CEO sees several parallels between the artwork and the local business.

- Just as life around the station building has evolved over time, BSB Industry has, over nearly 25 years in Lunderskov, gone from being a small local business to being a leading global player in welded steel structures for the wind industry. We still have many local employees, but just as the trains on the railway move, society and work culture also evolve. Therefore, today we have employees from many different cultures who, so to speak, have stepped off the train in Lunderskov because we and Lunderskov as a city embrace people and create a good, safe, and meaningful life, emphasizes CEO of BSB Industry, Morten Krusborg.

The sculpture is being constructed in close collaboration between Patricia Cancelo and BSB Industry. The sculpture will be 2.5 meters high and approximately 3 meters in diameter. The gift to the city is being funded by the following: BSB Industry, Drabæksmølle, HenningHave, WestStationGallery, and Kolding Municipality.
