Smart cutting table produces shorter downtime

Before, it took three men 36 hours to change the slats on the cutting table. Now, it takes one man 12 hours. This is the benefit of a new, smart cutting table that uses only 7 slats compared to the previous 100.

The advantage achieved is increased production capacity, significant financial savings and not the least a healthier working environment for the employees, says foreman Erik Fusager, who has spearheaded the construction of the new cutting table as part of a Continuous Business Improvement (CBI) project at BSB Industry.

- We have simply turned the slats so that they go in the longitudinal direction instead of across. This means that we can make do with 7 slats when we cut large templates, where the employees walk and move around on the item, Erik Fusager explains.

Solution provides greater production capacity

We do indeed save a lot of working hours on the new cutting table. On a regular, old cutting table, it took about 36 hours to replace the slats. On our new, improved cutting table for large templates, it only takes 12 hours. This means that we gain a significantly increased production capacity, because the cutting table can be reset and used again more speedily.

A sustainable solution

The changed structure of the cutting table results in a much smaller material consumption, which has both financial and environmental benefits.

- Previously, the slags from the cutting processes quickly closed off the cutting table. With only 7 slats, the slags do not stick, which means that it is easier to clean the table, just as the extraction works much better because the slats do not block the system. The effect is a much healthier working environment for employees, explains Erik Fusager.

With only 7 slats in the cutting table for large templates, BSB Industry achieves big savings on slats that are very expensive. At the same time, it is naturally much faster to replace 7 slats instead of previously up to 100 pieces.
